Hodgson has signed a ‘short-term deal’

Watford have confirmed the appointment of Roy Hodgson as their new manager.

The experienced 74-year-old replaces Claudio Ranieri, who was sacked after three months in charge at Vicarage Road, and is tasked with guiding the Hornets to Premier League safety.

In an official statement on the club’s website, the ex-Crystal Palace boss said: “Watford FC is delighted to confirm the appointment of Roy Hodgson as the club’s manager.

“The ex-England national team boss is joined by his trusted assistant Ray Lewington, who managed the Hornets so admirably from 2002 until 2005.”

The Athletic have said that Hodgson has been given a short-term deal until the end of the season and will now begin preparations for his (sacking in three months time) first game in charge against Burnley on February 5.
