Roma’s match with Udinese has been called off due to an on-pitch medical incident.

The Serie A fixture was halted shortly after Roma defender Evan Ndika collapsed on the pitch on 73 minutes.

According to Sky Italia, both managers were consulted before the game was officially abandoned 10 minutes after the emergency occurred. The match was 1-1 at the time.

The player was taken to hospital. Sky Italia reported how Roma boss Daniele De Rossi asked for the game to be suspended, while he checked in on the player, who was in the dressing room.

As the game was called off, by referee Luca Pairetto, the crowd stood and applauded in support of the player.

AS Roma released a statement shortly after the incident: “Following the on-field medical emergency involving Evan Ndicka, the match between Udinese and Roma has been suspended.

“The player is conscious and has been taken to hospital for further checks.

“Forza Evan, we are all with you!”

The 24-year-old started the game, in which Roberto Pereyra gave Udinese the lead before Romelu Lukaku levelled proceedings.
