Twitter tears into Zlatan Ibrahimovic after another Champions League disappointment

Tom Victor

It looks like it’s just not meant to be for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as far as Champions League glory is concerned.

The Swede found himself eliminated from the competition at the quarter-final stage for the fifth season running, four times with Paris Saint-Germain and once with AC Milan.

PSG’s 3-2 aggregate defeat to Manchester City means has still never won the trophy (he was on loan with Milan when parent club Barcelona triumphed in 2011) and, at the age of 34, it’s conceivable that he never will.

After scoring but also missing a penalty in the first leg of this year’s quarter final, the veteran drew a blank in the 1-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, and many were quick to have their say about the divisive forward.

There were enough people fighting his corner early on…

Even if he did decide to interview himself again.

But once the game got underway, the criticism soon began.

Even if he wasn’t the only big name to struggle…

And the backlash continued at the final whistle…

And then we got the final insult.
