United fans are leaving on-star reviews

Tripadvisor has suspended reviews after Manchester United fans left a series of negative submissions on businesses belonging to the Glazer family.

United hit a new low on Saturday as they were humiliated in a 4-0 defeat to Brentford, leaving them bottom of the Premier League and without a point from their opening two games.

The result has sparked yet another inquest into the Glazer family as supporters and high profile figures call for them to explain their vision or to sell the Red Devils.

Fans have protested in numerous ways and the latest of these is by leaving poor reviews of businesses owned by the family. One being targeted is ‘Stoney Clover Lane’, in New York, which is owned by Libby and Kendal Glazer.

All six of their businesses now have one-star reviews and the rapid number of negative comments has led to Tripadvisor intervening and releasing a statement.

Anybody who tries to leave a review is left with the message: “Due to a recent event that has attracted media attention and has caused an influx of review submissions that do not describe a first-hand experience, we have temporarily suspended publishing new reviews for this listing.”

United fans are reportedly planning to protest at their next home game, where they take on rivals Liverpool on August 22.

The Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (M.U.S.T) also released a statement in the aftermath of the defeat in which they hit out at the Glazer family and laid the blame with them for the loss.

They said: “What we have witnessed tonight [Saturday] is an embarrassment – no, a humiliation – for Manchester United fans. And yet in many ways it was not a surprise. It feels like the culmination of a long-term direction of travel.

“MUST hold the owners of the Club primarily responsible for this new low in our decade of decline. Sir Alex papered over the cracks, but since 2013 the consequences of our owners has been plain to see.

“On behalf of Manchester United fans everywhere, we demand urgent and radical change. And we as fans – all of us – need to stick together. Fans unity, with one voice aimed at the owners and the club, is needed more than ever right now.

“Finally, as the fans in the ground today showed, we will always support the shirts. Support the team, and defend the club. Our flag is deepest red, and we will never die.”
