This study proves how clueless many Brits are about rugby

The Rugby World Cup 2015 is almost upon us.

Die-hard rugby nuts will be itching for kick off as the home nations do battle with the likes of Australia and New Zealand. But as rugby mania takes hold in Britain it will inevitably bring out the armchair experts and bar room know-it-alls in their thousands over the next few weeks. Bookies bwin wanted to put the nation to the test to see just how much we actually know about the game... and we're not going to lie, the results were pretty bad. For starters almost half of all Brits didn't even know this year's world cup was taking place in the UK - or even that it kicked off in September. A further 50% didn't even know how many points players scored for a try (it's 7.5, obviously). More worryingly around a fifth think legendary Jonny Wilkinson is still the captain of the England side...and worse still, 9% reckon that a Bobby Moore scored the winning try in 2003 - don't get those guys on your pub quiz team. We're not sure if the cast of The Only Way is Essex were part of the study, but 10% of people believe the trophy was named after Sherlock Holmes author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and one in 10 people apparently believe rugby is called 'egg chasing' because the game was inspired by farmers trying to catch chickens.
