And it began with a sigh of relief at Old Trafford as the Red Devils avoided the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich and were matched with top seeded PSV Eindhoven which means a quick homecoming for United new boy Memphis Depay.
Louis van Gaal's side have a long journey ahead of them when they visit CSKA Moscow while the trickiest tie of the bunch could arguably be both games against Bundesliga runners-up Wolfsburg, although the German side could be less dangerous if Kevin de Bruyne's expected move to Manchester City is finalised.
