He died in hospital following an on-pitch collision.

Spanish football player Jesus De Miguel died as a result of “accidental chest trauma,” according to news reports with knowledge of the 30-year-old's post-mortem report, cited here by LBC.

De Miguel was playing for his side CD Tenerife, against FC Andorra in the Spanish second division, when the forward was involved in a collision with opposing goalkeeper Jesus Owono.

It was following this challenge that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch, after which he was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

Per LBC: "Pathologists have shared their preliminary conclusions about the cause of death in a report to an investigating court in the country’s capital, Santa Cruz.

"The results of additional tests carried out during the autopsy are still underway and are expected to be conducted in a specialist lab on the mainland in Spain."

Further reports from Spanish outlets Canarias7 and El Dia, cited here by The Mirror, backed the aforementioned perspective, adding that "De Miguel died from 'accidental thoracic trauma.'"

The term "thoracic" refers/relates to the thorax, an area of the chest between the neck and the diaphragm.

The reports detail: "'Thoracic trauma' has emerged as a 'cause consistent with the death' of De Miguel, though results from further tests conducted, such as toxicology reports, are still pending."

De Miguel's funeral is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
