The tweet was live for a matter of minutes
Tottenham Hotspur forward Heung-min Son has been criticised by fans for promoting NFTs on social media – less than 24 hours after joining Twitter.
The 29-year-old announced that he had joined Twitter – which has recently been purchased by billionaire Elon Musk – by tweeting a photo of himself, alongside the caption: “hi everyone this is the real me, excited to open my twitter!!”

Son also used ‘Twitter Voice’ to express how excited he was to ‘talk to’ fans about football and his ‘hobbies’.

However, just one day after joining the platform, the Spurs frontman came under intense scrutiny from his followers and other users after he tweeted about an ‘NFT Star fan pass’ – which is the Korean striker’s first NFT collection.
Son quote-tweeted the post from ‘The NFT Star’, tagging Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil star Neymar in his tweet, which also featured fire emojis.
Following the backlash to his tweeted, the Spurs man quickly deleted his post about his new venture and is yet to tweet anything else about it.
How did social media react?
After Son deleted his tweet, one user said: “Son came to Twitter to promote nft projects. Blocked”.
