Sensational debut goal for Sejad Salihovic with this 40-yard free kick

Ben Kenyon

We know they say it doesn’t matter how you score ’em, but this was a pretty memorable debut goal.

While a goal-line scramble or two-yard tap-in would have sufficed to open his account for Chinese Super League side Guizhou Renhe, Sejad Salihovic must have been pretty pleased with this screamer.

No less than 40 yards out, he walloped the ball in off the bar with the ‘keeper left for dead by the speed of the strike.

Salihovic, a former team-mate of Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino at Hoffenheim, won’t score many better goals in his entire career.

It was nearly a case of Frank Lampard’s World Cup goal that never was, after the ball bounced out.

But these eagle-eyed Chinese league officials clearly don’t need goal line technology.
