Premier League to investigate Manchester City over FFP

The Premier League has issued a statement on Friday which confirms it is investigating Manchester City over allegedly breaching Financial Fair Play regulations. City have been the subject of several claims published by German news magazine Der Spiegel in recent months which allege the Premier League champions have broken FFP rules. The most recent claims focus on a payment made to the agent of Jadon Sancho, who spent time in City's academy before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2017. 'The Premier League has previously contacted Manchester City to request information regarding recent allegations and is in ongoing dialogue with the club,' the statement reads. 'The league has detailed financial regulations and strong rules in the areas of Academy player recruitment and third-party ownership. 'We are currently investigating these matters and will allow Manchester City every opportunity to explain the context and detail surrounding them.' This development comes within 24 hours of Uefa announcing they would be conducting their own investigation into whether the club had breached FFP rules, with some reports claiming they could face a ban from the Champions League if found guilty. The Premier League leaders have since responded with a statement describing the claims as 'entirely false'.
