Boris Johnson announced the changes as the country moved to plan B for Covid restrictions
Prime minister Boris Johnson has announced that outdoor sporting venues with a capacity of 10,000 and over will require a vaccine passport to gain entry.
Johnson made the announcement during a press conference at Downing Street on Wednesday, where he confirmed the country would move to plan B in an effort to tackle the rising number of coronavirus cases relating to the recently-discovered Omicron variant.

It now means sporting clubs and venues across the country will now require proof of vaccination against Covid-19 in order to gain entry, which will come into effect from Monday (13 December) and will affect thousands of supporters.

Johnson also confirmed that a negative lateral flow test will also be deemed as an acceptable form of proof for supporters when gaining entry.
The Times earlier reported that Premier League clubs have been planning for such an outcome to happen, with many sides holding trials to ensure supporters have covid passports.
Clubs across the country also now largely use electronic tickets, enabling fans to attach their covid passports to their tickets in a bid to help checks run smoother and quicker with larger stadiums likely to experience bigger delays when entering the ground.
