Fans have noticed Djokovic inhaling a substance from his water bottle

Fans of Wimbledon have questioned what is inside Novak Djokovic’s water bottle after footage of him appearing to inhaling contents from the drink emerged

The men’s top seed at the tournament was seen doing so during a change of ends, with the video in question coming during his last 16 victory against Tim van Rijthoven, where he came from two sets behind.

One fan who tweeted the video said: “I would very much like to know what was in this bottle. It certainly wasn’t liquid, and he gestured to his coach before inhaling it. Very odd.”

When asked about the mystery contents, the 35-year-old refused to give away much, claiming it is a “magic potion, that is all I can say.”

One source believes they have the answer to the ‘magic potion’

But one source believes they have an idea as to what the secret ingredient is in an interview with The Telegraph.

They said: “You wouldn’t really get any benefit from doing it mid-match, but I’m sure this is isotonic.

“A lot of players have started eating powder, even pre-workout isotonic powder. They’ve started eating it without water. It’s mainly pre-workout stuff because it gives them a buzz.

“I imagine it’s disgusting in the throat. It’s weird, but it is what they are doing.”

Isotonic powder is used as it is easy to digest and acts as a way to replenish carbohydrates so that energy levels can remain high throughout the course of the game.

The supplement is usually taken by dissolving the powder in water and usually drunk before or after the exercise. Players are often seen consuming nutritional drinks and snacks during high-intensity matches.

Djokovic recovered from losing the first set to beat Cameron Norrie in the semi-final on Friday to set up a tie against Nick Kyrgios on Sunday, where the Serb will aim to win the 21st Grand Slam of his career.
