NFL fans embarrass themselves with ridiculous tifo balls-up

Never go full Cleveland Browns...

Kevin Beirne

It has been a special year for Cleveland sports.

After going without a championship victory in a major sport since 1964, this year has seen the Ohio city turn its fortunes around.

First, Stipe Miocic claimed the UFC world heavyweight title with first-round KO of Fabrício Werdum at UFC 198 back in May, and the 34-year-old seemingly broke the Cleveland curse in the process.

Just a month later, the Cleveland Cavaliers turned around a 3-1 series deficit against the number one ranked Golden State Warriors (who boasted back-to-back season MVP Steph Curry in their ranks) to claim the NBA Championship in dramatic fashion.

Now, Cleveland’s baseball team is just one game away from claiming their first World Series since the 1940s – they just need to beat the Chicago Cubs tonight.

But things aren’t going so well for Cleveland’s other major representatives, the NFL’s Browns.

They have long been one of the most widely mocked teams in the league, and came into this weekend’s action as the only team in the NFL without a win this season.

So when the New York Jets rolled into town on Sunday, the fans did everything they could to recapture the spirit of their early incarnations, when they claimed eight league titles in their first two decades of existence.

But unfortunately, Cleveland’s haplessness extends to the stands, it would seem.

Supporters in the east end of the stadium tried to raise a banner celebrating their position in the Browns’ infamous ‘Dawg Pound’ – the section for the most hardcore fans.

Unfortunately, in all the excitement, they acted a bit too much like the players they were cheering for and got their positioning all wrong. Which led to this:

When it rains, it pours.
