‘We are far away from any progress’
Mohamed Salah has said this season is his “last year in the club” in a new interview about his Liverpool future.
The Egyptian forward is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool, and with the January transfer window now open he is free to talk to other clubs about a potential move.
There has been huge speculation all season about Salah’s future at Anfield, with Liverpool yet to agree a new deal with the 32-year-old.
Now, Salah – who is currently the top goalscorer in the Premier League this season – has cast further doubt on his future at the club during a new interview with Sky Sports.
Speaking to the broadcaster, Salah said it was his “last year in the club” as he was asked about his contract situation.
He told Sky Sports that this season, winning the Premier League with Liverpool has been his number one aim.
Salah revealed that every previous season, winning the Champions League had been his main aim. When asked why things had changed this year, he replied: “I have no idea. It’s probably because we didn’t celebrate the one we won in the way we wanted and also, coming back here too, it’s my last year in the club so you want to do something special for the city.
“That was the thing in my head.”
When he was pressed on whether he truly believed this would be his final season at Anfield, Salah said: “So far, yes. It’s the last six months. There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress. So, we just need to wait and see.”
Liverpool currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, ahead of second-placed Arsenal who they have a game in hand on.
The Reds take on their fierce rivals Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
