Middlesbrough player unable to celebrate promotion due to sickeningly gory injury

Nooruddean Choudry

If you are of a delicate disposition, you may want to look away now.

Middlesbrough were involved in a vital promotion decider on Saturday as they hoped to secure an automatic route back to the Premier League against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Thankfully for manager Aitor Karanka and the home fans, a 1-1 draw at the Riverside stadium was enough to confirm their safe passage from the Championship along with table-topping Burnley.

Cristhian Stuani

Gaston Ramirez, on loan from Southampton, was integral to the result and it was his marvellous freekick that led to Boro’s goal from Cristhian Stuani. But he was the victim of a horror tackle later on.

Brighton’s Dale Stephens got an equaliser for the away side before he was sent off for his slice on Ramirez, and that was also the end of the Uruguayan’s day as he was left was a horrendously deep gash to his shin.

Images of the injury are below, but proceed with caution – you have been warned…
