The United links are strong...

The magic of the FA cup is still alive and well.

The draw for the first round of the world’s oldest cup competition has been made…and it’s still got fans dreaming.

But these fans have won the competition before. The Manchester United legends from the fabled ‘Class of ’92’ have lifted the famous trophy on three occasions, but now they’re back rooting for a different team.

Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt are running their hometown team Salford City – and the club has been handed a first round glamour tie.

Evo-Stik League Northern Premier side Salford have been drawn against League Two Notts County, who boast former United stars Alan Smith and Roy Carroll as well as goalkeeping coach Kevin Pilkington.

Salford’s famous owners are buzzing about it.

Phil Neville fancied a draw against near neighbours Bury, but he told BBC 5 Live that Notts County was the ‘perfect’ tie.

Phil Neville said: “It is a perfect draw for us. To get a home draw, as soon as our number came out of the hat, we were all excited. Then to get a league club.

“Obviously the BBC will be bringing the cameras down for a live game… we’re really excited.
