Man City have found another way of outdoing rivals United

As if their 2012 and 2014 Premier League titles weren't enough for Manchester City to lord it over their neighbours United, they have now found another way of outdoing Louis van Gaal's team.

The arrival of Kevin de Bruyne for a club record fee, thought to be in the region of £55m, means City have broken United's record for the most money spent by an English club in a single transfer window. United broke the bank last season to bring in the likes of Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, parting with a massive £146m. But City have now topped that figure with the arrival of De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi, Fabian Delph, Patrick Roberts and Enes Unal bringing their total to almost £160m They're still some way off the world record though, with Real Madrid's 2009 efforts unlikely to be beaten. That window saw the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Karim Benzema arrive in the Spanish capital for a combined £195m. The manager at the helm for that outlay? None other than current Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini.
