Man City expected to beat Liverpool to huge signing of Champions League star

Luke Davies

The Citizens are monitoring the situation of Jamal Musaila. The German international has continued to impress despite his side’s misfortunes this term. The 21-year-old has 16 goal involvements in 23 games and is an ever-present in the Bavarian side.

The attacker is one of the most highly-rated prospects in Europe as he enters the final two years of his current contract.

According to the Independent Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to recruit an additional attacking midfielder to complement the potential arrival of Lucas Paqueta, who is heavily linked with a move from West Ham United. With Phil Foden having increased responsibility while Kevin De Bruyne approaches his mid-thirties it seems like the perfect time to introduce a young face at the Etihad. Michael Olise is also highly thought of by Guardiola.

Although the star features regularly for Germany he was brought up in west London; he represented England at youth level before switching alliances to Germany.

Liverpool, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested but may have to sell a high-profile player in order to fund the move.

However, Musaila may not play in England but has caught the attention of Premier League legends.

When speaking in February 2024, Rio Ferdinand praised the German: “’I love him. I don’t know where his ceiling is and it’s nice to see the comments from his team-mates saying how diligent he is, how much of a professional he is.

“(Leon) Gortezka says he’s the best talent maybe Germany have ever had. The way he moves and glides with the ball. I see a Ballon d’Or at some point in his career if he fulfils that potential.”

He continued to compare him to Phil Foden, a duo that may join forces in Manchester this summer.

“’Him and Phil Foden receive the ball the best in that position at the moment in behind the midfielders and defenders.

“He doesn’t seem like the type who’s going to get too high when he’s winning or too long when it’s not going well. He seems like a very balanced, well-measured kid with a lot of good people around him. That goes a long way and that means that there’s a real good possibility of him staying at the top for a sustained period.”

Musaila will, no doubt, have a huge say in the success of Germany at this summer’s European Championships.
