Luka Modric tells Real Madrid he wants to move to Inter Milan, claims report

First Cristiano Ronaldo, now this…

Rumours linking Luka Modric with a move to Inter Milan simply aren’t going away.

Reports from Italy earlier this month claimed Inter had been encouraged to pursue a move for Modric by the Croatian international’s representatives.

At that point, it seemed highly unlikely that such a transfer would happen – especially so soon after Real Madrid has allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to depart for Juventus. While it’s hard to imagine the European champions will have warmed to the idea in the time since, Gazzetta dello Sport now claim Modric has informed the club that he wishes to make the move to Milan.

Modric – winner of the Golden Ball as he helped his national side to the World Cup final earlier this summer – had hoped to meet Real president Florentino President on Wednesday to make his intentions clear. That meeting was postponed until Friday evening, leaving the 32-year-old to speak with Perez’s right-hand man Jose Angel Sanchez instead.

Sanchez is said to have made it clear to Modric that the club will not entertain any offers for him, but the former Tottenham midfielder is likely to ask for a move again when he finally meets Perez on Friday.

After winning four Champions League titles in the last five years at the Bernabeu, Modric is thought to be interested in starting a new chapter in his career at the San Siro.

Inter now have three of Modric’s international teammates on the payroll. Sime Vrsaljko recently completed his move from Atletico Madrid, joining countrymen Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic at the club. This, it’s claimed, has played a part in persuading him to ask for a move away from Madrid.

Real have completed the signing of Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea on Thursday. The goalkeeper had previously spent three years on loan with Atletico Madrid and was eager to return to the Spanish capital to be with his children, who love there.
