Louis van Gaal urges Daley Blind to leave Manchester United for Barcelona

He suits their philosophy.

Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has come out and urged Daley Blind to leave Manchester United for Barcelona in the upcoming January transfer window. This is just the latest episode of an ongoing war of words between the Dutchman and his former employers after he spoke about seeking revenge on United, as well as saying he would rather watch Manchester City than United. Ignoring all irony, Van Gaal branded United "boring" and accoring to The Mirror, has now said that:

"Daley Blind is better off going to Barcelona than staying at Manchester United. "He is not even on the bench for United sometimes. Daley can play in more than one position and at Barcelona he would never be sat in the stand.”

Van Gaal brought Blind to United in 2014 for £13.8m from Ajax, where he was impressive playing in holding midfield. But during his time at United, he has struggled to keep his place in the team for a run of games, let alone in his favoured position, with the clichéd physicality of the Premier League apparently not suiting the player's skillset. Van Gaal, who has also managed Barcelona, went on to say:

"I think Daley would fit in better at Barcelona anyway. His level and his style of play is more suited to Spain than England. "“He can operate as a central defender who builds up the play. He can be a defensive midfielder or an attacking left back. Daley can do it all.’’

It is hard to argue with Van Gaal's reasoning - Blind's passing ability and versatility would make him an asset at Barcelona - even though his motives for coming out with these statements may not be purely looking out for Daley Blind's career.
