Phillips could be on the move after just one season at Man City

With midfield duo Jordan Henderson and Fabinho set for bumper moves to Saudi Arabia, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are in the market for midfield reinforcements.

Having already signed the more attack-minded pairing of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, the Reds have set their sights on a player better suited to playing at the base of midfield.

Finding such a player can prove to be a tricky task, and with the league’s premier holding midfielder in Declan Rice having signed for Arsenal, options with proven Premier League experience are limited.

Liverpool to turn to Phillips?

This lack of available homegrown talent has seen the Liverpool hierarchy reportedly set their sights on an unlikely candidate- England international Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips was part of Manchester City’s title winning squad last season, but started just once over the course of the entire campaign as he struggled to find his form from previous side Leeds.

Previously one of the league’s most sought after talents, the 27-year-old is seeking a transfer lifeline this summer as he looks to maintain his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of Euro 2024 next year.

Already offered to West Ham this summer as a potential make-weight for Declan Rice, it is thought that Pep Guardiola is willing to part with Phillips ahead of the upcoming season.

According to Sky Sports, Phillips finds himself as a serious candidate to take over from both Henderson and Fabinho, with Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia the other muted targets.
