José Mourinho open to offers for Manchester United defender

He hasn't started in the league since August

He’s hardly featured this season.

Daley Blind could leave Manchester United in the summer, according to reports from ESPN.

The Dutchman has not managed to nail down a place in United’s first team for a sustained period of time since his transfer from Ajax in 2014.

He has become victim to his own versatility at United, fulfilling stop-gap roles at centre-back, left-back and defensive midfield, but he has never made one position his own.

This season he has not started in the league since August. Ashley Young has been first choice left-back until Luke Shaw’s recent resurgence, Nemanja Matić claimed the defensive midfield position as his own, and Mourinho’s preference for bigger central defenders has not helped Blind in his search for game time.

Consequently, José Mourinho is willing to listen to offers for the 27-year-old, with Barcelona reported to be interested.  Blind is a product of the Ajax academy and would fit well into Barcelona’s style of play, able to slot in at left centre-back an deputise for Sergio Busquets in midfield.

Blind will be out of contract in the summer, but United are set to trigger a one year extension in his contract to ensure the player retains his transfer value.

He certainly suits Barcelona’s philosophy, the only obstacle in his quest for regular football would be the task of taking Samuel Umtiti’s spot in the starting XI.
