He has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

INEOS, the chemical company owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have taken the decision to sack the head coach from one of the football clubs they run.

Alongside Manchester United, the INEOS Group also run OGC Nice in Ligue 1, and FC Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland, and hold stakes at a host of other teams in various sports including cycling and motorsport.

Earlier this year, INEOS are reported to have expressed interest in finding buyers for Nice and Lausanne-Sport, although no such sale has taken place so far at either club.

While they remain in charge of Lausanne-Sport, INEOS have moved to sack the club's current manager Luka Elsner, just five months after he was appointed.

In a statement posted on X, the Swiss club confirmed: "FC Lausanne-Sport and Luka Elsner end their collaboration.

"After lengthy discussions on the current sporting situation, FC Lausanne-Sport and Luka Elsner have mutually agreed to end their collaboration."

The decision comes with Lausanne-Sport currently placed last in the Swiss Super League.

Unlike Luka Elsner and FC Lausanne-Sport, the other of INEOS' managers currently under scrutiny appeared to alleviate a great deal of pressure last night, as Michael Carrick's Manchester United emerged 3-2 victors over Roma.

The result, secured after a 2-0 half time deficit, was the Red Devils' first win in the past ten matches, and means Carrick should be safe in his role until at least the upcoming international break.
