Ireland v England: It happened, and that’s all we can be sure of

After the excitement of the Champions League final less than 24 hours earlier, Ireland v England was something of a damp squib in comparison.

The two sides played out a dismal goalless draw in a game which showcased tired legs at the end of a long season. Watching a football match in glorious sunshine made some of us nostalgic for last summer's World Cup. https://twitter.com/tomwfootball/status/607508454509539329 But that quickly changed when the line-ups were announced https://twitter.com/MickmarJr/status/607520911340785664 With uninspiring play all round, some were drawn to analyse the surroundings. https://twitter.com/jonathanliew/status/607529675703914496 Things didn't improve before half-time. https://twitter.com/evanfanning/status/607530412869599232 https://twitter.com/oharaa/status/607532267578257408 The second half saw some changes for both sides, with the substitutions earning a mixed reception at best. https://twitter.com/Will_Unwin/status/607541437496893442 https://twitter.com/pokeefe1/status/607543046293581824 Finally there was some 'excitement' late on https://twitter.com/FootyAccums/status/607542500518195201 But it ended 0-0, meaning England's winless run against the Republic of Ireland continues. We wonder how Jack Grealish must be feeling. https://twitter.com/JOE_co_uk/status/607511929712549888 https://twitter.com/EamoV1/status/607545758938767360
