Inter Milan planning controversial change to club name and badge

Rumours suggest they will follow Juventus' path with their new badge

Inter Milan, formally known as Football Club Internazionale Milano, are planning a rebrand to both their name and badge, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. The rebrand will mark the club's 113th anniversary and will introduce the club's 14th iteration of its crest. While altering a club's main symbol of recognition is always certain to ruffle some feathers, it's worth noting this will be the club's sixth new badge in the last 40 years, though some of the changes have been hardly noticeable at all. Domestic rivals Juventus famously changed their badge in 2017, leaving behind the classic oval shaped black and white stripes for a slicker, more modern look of two Js next to each other, in a design move reportedly intended to replicate the branding success of the New York Yankees. Rumour has it Inter will be going down the same route. Reports suggest the San Siro club's new name will be a shortened version of of its current name. They are expected to ditch the "Football Club" prefix and cut Internazionale down, making them 'Inter Milano'. Inter Milan are currently engaged in a legal battle with David Beckham's MLS outfit Inter Miami, suing for trademark infringement over the use of the word 'Inter'.
