Gary Neville says he wants to “immerse” himself into his role at Valencia

Gary Neville may just be taking over Valencia on a short-term basis, but he doesn't see it that way.

The former Manchester United defender held his first press conference as Valencia manager on Thursday and has hinted that despite his six month contract, he might be in things for the long-haul. Speaking at the Mestalla Stadium, Neville said: "I think the only way to approach any football job is think of it as a permanent job, even though we know it's only six months. "It's the only way I can think. Every decision I make over the next six months will not be a short-term decision. I can't work that way. I don't believe in working that way" Neville then confirmed that his family would be joining him in Spain so that he could fully commit to the role. "My family will move over here permanently. My girls will finish school in Manchester in two weeks' time and they'll move over to Valencia with my wife. "I always wanted, when I was at a football club that I played at, when foreign players to come over to show commitment. Not just to the city, but to everything and to immerse themselves in the culture. "I think it's absolutely vitally important that I show that level of commitment, even though it is at this moment in time a six-month position."
