Gary Lineker royally mugs off Paul Ince over Solskjaer claims

Gary Lineker made Paul Ince look an absolute fool on the BBC this evening ahead of Manchester United vs Wolves in the FA Cup quarter-finals

Oh, Paul, you’ve been done here

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done very well at Manchester United, hasn’t he? During his short time as manager having taken over from José Mourinho, he has exceeded all expectations.

Under his leadership, United went 12 games unbeaten in the Premier League, and knocked Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League, showing that the Norwegian coach and former United striker has more in his arsenal than just putting smiles back on the players’ faces.

Although not everyone has been convinced that Solskjaer justifies the hype. A few weeks into his reign, one of his former teammates at Old Trafford, Paul Ince, suggested that any former United player who’d gone into management could have gone in and done a similarly good job, so simple was the task of simply not being Mourinho.

“I think I could have gone in at the time. They needed someone to rest the ship, I think I could have done that,” he said.

“Brucie (Steve Bruce) could have done it, Mark Hughes could have done it.”

Nobody was convinced by his laughable assertion, as fans and other pundits called him out on it.

On Saturday evening, Gary Lineker piled in on Ince, as the pair discussed United’s recent fortunes ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final against Wolves.

“A lot’s been said about what Solskjaer has done, but anyone could’ve done it, couldn’t they Paul?” Lineker said.

Realising that Ince had been royally mugged off here, the panel of pundits, featuring Alan Shearer and Ian Wright, burst into hysterics.

In fairness to Ince, he joins in and laughs off this roasting. Because what else can he do?
