Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar is in hospital after collapsing during pre-season medical tests in Sao Paolo.
The 34-year-old, who played for Chelsea for five years from 2012-17, was reportedly completing an interval test on an exercise bike when he fell ill.
According to local outlet Global Esporte, Oscar was unconscious for full two minutes while he was attended to by the club's medical staff.
An ambulance was soon called for Oscar and the player was taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent a diagnostic catheterization so doctors could see the condition of his heart.
There is currently no date scheduled for his discharge from hospital, as doctors continue tests.
Per the report, Oscar is also said to be considering retiring as a result of the heart scare.
There have been some suggestions that Sao Paolo may terminate his contract.
An official statement from the Brazilian club reads: “During tests carried out on Tuesday morning (11am), at SuperCT, as part of the preparation for the 2026 pre-season, athlete Oscar presented an incident with cardiological changes, being promptly attended to by the club's professionals and the medical team from Einstein Hospital Israelita, who were present at the site.
“The player was then taken to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition and remains under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis.
“As per standard procedure and respecting the player's privacy, further information will be released as soon as there is an update from the medical team, in agreement with Oscar.”
This is not the first time that Oscar has had concerns about his heart.
When he injured his vertebrae in August, tests revealed a cardiac abnormality. While it wasn't considered serious enough to halt his career, it is a problem that both he and the club have been monitoring.
Oscar won two Premier League titles with the Blues and made more than 200 appearances for the London-based side before making a shock move to Chinese Super League club Shanghai Port in 2017.
