PL clubs vote against banning loan moves between teams with same ownership

A proposal was put forward at the league's shareholders' meeting

The Athletic reported that all 20 clubs had representatives at the league's shareholders' meeting, which took place on Tuesday.

The vote required at least a two thirds majority (14) for amended regulation to be adopted.

Even though a majority of 13 clubs voted in favour, it wasn't enough and the rules will remain as they are during the January window.

Currently, there are no restrictions on Premier League players being sold in one transfer window and the club they join subsequently agreeing to a loan or permanent move back to the division with a team operating under the same ownership in a late window.

It follows after speculation emerged linking Newcastle with a move for Al Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves.

Neves joined the Saudi Pro League side from Wolves in the summer but had been linked with a move back to the north east amid the Magpies' ongoing injury concerns.

Newcastle and Al Hilal are both predominantly owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund however it was confirmed on Tuesday that Neves would not be moving to St James' Park in the winter window.

While the speculation wasn't the deciding factor to vote on a potential ban, it formed part of a larger conversation that includes restrictions on front-of-shirt sponsorships that will be discussed at a later date.
