Let the transfer battle begin

Premier League clubs have been put on red alert following reports that Real Madrid are set to end their interest in Kylian Mbappe.

Madrid have been long-term admirers of the Frenchman and tried to sign him in the summer of 2022, only for Mbappe to renew his contract at Paris Saint-Germain at the eleventh hour.

Mbappe’s current deal expires at the end of this season and the World Cup winner refused PSG’s offer of an extension and there was large expectation that the 24-year-old would move to the Spanish giants on a free at the end of this current campaign.

Spanish outlet Cadena SAR reported that the catalyst behind Los Blancos’ decision to abandon any future move for Mbappe was a fear that his wages would be too high.

The forward allegedly wanted over £300,000-a-week which would’ve been more than double of what Jude Bellingham is earning.

Real’s latest move has now opened the door to Premier League clubs, who will grow in belief that they can persuade Mbappe to come to England.

Liverpool are said to be optimistic of their chances having been in contact with the PSG star since 2017 while Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle United are also said to be interested.

The Reds spoke to Mbappe when he was still at Monaco but he chose PSG instead of Liverpool.

They added that it would be a “surprise” to see Mbappe at Liverpool next summer and it still looks as if the Frenchman will join Madrid following the expiration of his contract.
