‘Deal agreed’ for Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian to leave Old Trafford

Manchester United's Matteo Darmian appears set to depart the club this summer, with reports in his native Italy claiming a deal has been agreed with Juventus to take him back to Turin. The full-back was signed by Louis van Gaal from Juve's city rivals Torino in 2015. Since the arrival of Jose Mourinho a year later, his appearances for the United first team have been increasingly rare. Explaining that a move for Liverpool's Emre Can is as good as confirmed, a report from Calcio Mercato claims that Juve have now reached an agreement with Darmian's entourage - fending off interest from other Serie A clubs, including title rivals, Napoli. As well as this, contact has already been made with United, who appear open to the idea of the transfer. The Italian champions are said to have considered a move for the 28-year-old in January, with United thought to have been reluctant to let him leave at this point without adequate cover in the full-back area. Allowing Darmian to depart Old Trafford would tie in with recent reports suggesting Jose Mourinho is planning a defensive overhaul in the summer. The United boss is expected to add at least another central defender to his squad and may also be considering a move for new full-backs.
