Chelsea striker to become first female player to feature on global FIFA game cover

This will be the first time a woman has featured on the global cover of the game
Chelsea striker Sam Kerr will make history by becoming the first female footballer to feature on the cover of EA Sports' upcoming edition of FIFA. Kerr will feature alongside Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe on the cover of FIFA 23 which is set to be released at the end of September. David Jackson, who works as part of the team for EA SPORTS FC, said that it was a "monumental moment not only for the franchise, but for EA SPORTS as a whole." Kerr is one of the star players of the Women's Super League and won the golden boot last season, scoring 20 goals as she helped Chelsea to a league and FA Cup double. The Australian also won the PFA players' player of the year and Football Writers' Association (FWA) awards for her performances. Previously female players have only featured on regional covers. American Alex Morgan and Canada's Christine Sinclair featured alongside Lionel Messi on the North American editions of FIFA 16 - the first to include women's teams.
Upon being picked, Kerr described the opportunity to feature on the cover as "a dream come true."
She said: "It’s an honour and a dream come true to be on the cover of FIFA 23.
"It’s been incredible to work with Kylian and the whole EA SPORTS team, and I can’t wait for fans to get their hands on a copy of the game."
This year will be the last FIFA-branded game made by EA SPORTS as their partnership with football's world governing body set to come to an end.
