Football fans have mixed responses to FIFA 17’s choice of cover stars

Not everyone's been won over

The first teaser trailer for FIFA 17 has dropped, and what many have perceived as the choice of cover stars has got plenty of people talking.

As we first reported some time ago, James Rodriguez is among the apparent cover stars after the expiry of Lionel Messi’s ambassadorial contract, though FIFA have not officially confirmed this.

But the Real Madrid playmaker is not the only new face – he’s joined by Anthony Martial, Eden Hazard and Marco Reus as ambassadors for the new edition of the game.

Manchester United fans are delighted to see Martial feature, responding with a mix of pride…

And smugness…

And bizarre adaptations of chants.

As for rival fans? Well…

The choice of Hazard was baffling to some after an underwhelming season, even if he was named Player of the Year not too long ago

And we’re not sure all the critics were being entirely serious. At least we really hope they weren’t

The comments regarding the two foreign-based players were altogether more cutting.

At least some of them were, anyway

FIFA 17 will be released in the US on September 27 and the rest of the world on September 29.
