A hamstring injury to Charlie Austin has left Pellegrino short in the attacking department and while he's also looking at permanent options, a loan move for Sturridge is right up there on the Southampton manager's wishlist for the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old hasn't featured in the Premier League for over a month and with the World Cup fast approaching, it may be worth his while to pursue first-team football elsewhere if he is to put himself in with a shout of making Gareth Southgate's squad.
And having just seen a cool £75 million arrive in their bank account after agreeing to part ways with Virgil van Dijk, Southampton would be more than able to afford Sturridge's wages for the next six months.
