Man City insists on clause to stop Man United signing Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid

Manchester City are set to lose another promising young talent

Brahim Diaz, who joined City's youth set-up from Malaga six years ago, is now on the cusp of completing a move to Real Madrid. Similarly to Jadon Sancho, who left City for Borussia Dortmund in 2017, Diaz is said to have become disillusioned with the lack of genuine first team opportunities at The Etihad and is now thought to be close to sealing a deal worth an initial £15.5 m (possibly rising to £22m). City are said to have reluctantly agreed to Diaz's sale, and while they have not secured a buyback clause such as the one they are believed to have negotiated with Dortmund for Sancho, they are said to have inserted a sell-on clause. Should Diaz leave the Bernabeu, it's reported that City will pocket 15% of any fee they receive. This, however, changes if Diaz leaves for Manchester United, where City will receive 40% of the money Real receive. The 19-year-old last appeared for City's first team last month, when they eventually defeated Leicester City on penalties in the Carabao Cup final. Along with Sancho and Stockport-born Phil Foden, he was earmarked as one of City's future stars. It now seems that only Foden, who recently signed an extended deal with his boyhood club, will be a regular for the Premier League champions in the years to come.
