Blackburn Rovers fans couldn’t possibly have timed their matchday protest any worse

Stranger than fiction.

Talk about timing.

Blackburn Rovers are languishing in the relegation zone of the Sky Bet Championship and managerless Wolves aren’t much ahead of them in the table. Together they played one of the weirdest 1-1 draws at Ewood Park on Saturday.

While the scoreline at the full time whistle read 1-1, a large portion of the Blackburn support watched a goalless game play out.

This all happened because of a protest against the club’s owners, Venky’s, staged by supporters during the game. The demonstration involved fans arriving late at the stadium and walking out before the end of the match.

This worked out to their own detriment as they missed out on the game’s two most important events – the goals.

The fans walked in at around the 18 minute mark – five minutes after Sam Gallagher scored the opener, before walking out on 75 minutes – three minutes before Dave Edwards equalised for Wolves.

When asked if the lack of fans had any impact on Blackburn losing the lead, manager Owen Coyle stressed that it had no bearing on the result.

Coyle’s team dropped to 23rd after the draw, while managerless Wolves are now 17th, just three points outside the drop zone.
