It's smarter than appointing Garde. It's smarter than signing literally nobody in January when survival was still a possibility. And it's certainly smarter than publicising the fact that
your first team lost to your Under-21s.
In fact, we'll go as far as saying holding a Player of the Year ceremony after the season Villa have had would be the administrative equivalent of posting a photo of your new car to social media in the immediate aftermath of a 6-0 home defeat.
