City are yet to respond to the offer

Northern Premier League side Ashton United have confirmed they have made an approach to Manchester City over a possible month-long loan for Erling Haaland.

Unlike plenty of his teammates at City, Haaland will not be heading to Qatar in the coming days following Norway’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.

Ashton United have seen this as an opportunity, and have confirmed an offer has been made to City to take him off their hands for the next month in a bid to keep his match fitness razor sharp until the Premier League resumes in late December.

Haaland move ‘makes sense’

“It just makes sense,” explained manager Michael Clegg.

“City aren’t playing, and we want to help by keeping Erling fit, it makes more sense than him playing golf for six weeks.

“We think he will be a great fit for us, and would slot in with our squad dynamic really well.”

As of yet, there’s been no response from City – anyone would think they aren’t taking it seriously – and so it’s not clear if Haaland will be cleared to play in Saturday’s home game against Bamber Bridge.

Haaland joined City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer and has since scored 23 times in 18 appearances for the club.

He was, however, unable to add to his tally over the weekend, as City suffered a shock defeat at home to Brentford in their final game before the World Cup.

That defeat, coupled with Arsenal’s win over Wolves later in the day, means City trail the Gunners by five points heading into the World Cup break.
