Arsenal supporters unsure about news of Unai Emery’s latest transfer target

Interesting...

Yet another moving part has been added to the goalkeeping merry-go-round that is this transfer window.

Alisson Becker has already signed for Liverpool, meaning that Chelsea will have to look elsewhere when Real Madrid inevitably get the deal for Thibaut Courtois over the line.

Petr Cech has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge and while supporters likely wouldn’t consider the Arsenal ‘keeper an adequate replacement for the departing Courtois, he may be drafted in as cover for a different target.

It’s certainly looking like his days with the Gunners are numbered because, despite the fact that Cech was given the No 1 shirt at the Emirates at the beginning of the summer, new manager Unai Emery is looking to bring in the second goalkeeper of the window.

Having already signed Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen last month, Emery is now hoping to return to the Bundesliga for a second stopper as he’s targeted Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Yann Sommer, according to a report in MARCA.

The Spanish outlet claims that Sommer, a Swiss international, is in advanced discussions to move to Arsenal which surely spells curtains for Cech or David Ospina or, most likely, both.

It’s interesting that Emery has clearly prioritised an entire overhaul of the goalkeeping department at his new club and supporters can’t quite work out the logic in giving Cech the No 1 shirt only to then splash out £35 million on two new ‘keepers.
