Arsenal fans in panic mode after Louis van Gaal revelation

It couldn't be... Could it?

Supporters are putting two and two together… And they’re not one bit happy about it.

For the first time in two decades, Arsenal are on the hunt for a new manager.

Arsene Wenger announced last week that he will not be in charge next season and talk immediately moved to his successor.

Decorated managers such as Luis Enrique and Carlo Ancelotti emerged as early favourites to take over from the Frenchman while club legends like Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira also found themselves in the conversation.

Mikel Arteta has reportedly been identified by Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis as his top target but a revelation from Louis van Gaal has fans concerned that he’s in the running to take over at the Emirates.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport, the former Manchester United boss said: “I still cannot say that I’m retired.

“I still get a lot of offers, although that sounds annoying to some people. But it’s true.

“I now have an offer I can’t refuse, I think.

“But if I don’t have a new club in July or August, you can assume that I’m retired.”

The statement about having an offer he couldn’t refuse has prompted mass panic among Arsenal fans as they were quickly reminded what Van Gaal had said in December about jobs that he’d consider accepting.

The Dutchman stated five months ago that he would only be tempted back into management if one of the big clubs in the Premier League came calling as he wanted to punish United for the way that they sacked him in 2016.

“I most likely won’t coach any club again,” Van Gaal told De Telegraaf before Christmas.

“But if I do, it has to be a large English club, because I have unfinished business with Manchester United.”

While it’s been suggested that Everton are more likely to bring Van Gaal in, there’s no denying that Arsenal are a big side with a guaranteed vacancy come the summer and supporters are freaking out about potentially seeing the 66-year-old in their dugout.
