Ramos, a scorer in both Champions League finals against Atleti, later gave Real a second-half lead from the penalty spot before Costa tapped home a second to send the game to extra-time.
Both Madrid sides kick off their domestic season in the next week. Real host Getafe, in a game that's expected to be Thibaut Courtois' debut, while Atleti begin the season at Valencia on Monday night.
