Put the kettle on, and let us teach you about the perfect brew (in our humble opinion)
We all have key milestones in our upbringing. Learning to walk and talk, learning to read and write.
For Brits though, there’s another pivotal moment growing up – the day you learned how to make a cup of tea.
Our country runs on tea, it survives on tea, it thrives on tea. You probably think you can make a pretty decent brew as well. It’s a simple enough process after all. Tea bag in cup, add boiling water, let it brew, add milk and sugar to taste.
Except, you’re probably still not getting it quite right.
Don’t take our word for it, this is coming from Yorkshire Tea, where everything is done proper.
So what is the proper way to make a brew?
First, the water. Run the tap for a bit so the water is nicely aerated, fill the kettle, and boil once.
Then grab your mug, lob a teabag in there (Yorkshire Tea, of course), pour over the water and stir briefly.
Now here’s the key moment, where it’s make or break for your brew: the steep time.
Everyone makes tea differently but if you were to pop by Yorkshire Tea HQ, they would suggest leaving the bag in the mug for four minutes and giving the tea plenty of time to unlock its flavour.
Any less time and it just won’t be enough for the tea to brew to its full potential.
This is the same if you’re making up a pot of tea as well, just make sure you’ve got enough teabags in there (two for a regular pot or one for a mini pot).
Once the four minutes are up, gently squeeze the teabag against the side of the mug to get all the flavour. Don’t do this more than once though, as you’ll start to mash the tea, making it taste bitter.
Finally, customise that cuppa to your own personal taste. Splash of milk, sugar, honey, lemon, or nothing at all – it’s up to you.
So, there you have it. Just remember those magic four minutes and you can impress your friends and family with your cracking brews.
And if you’re still unsure, Yorkshire Tea have created a handy little app where you can upload a picture of your brew to be analysed and will provide your own personalised tea profile: Brewtone.ai – Show us your brew
