Here’s how to serve the best whisky cocktails this Matesmas with The Singleton

JOE

You’ve seen the video, now it’s time to try one yourself

If you want to try your hand at making your own delicious beverages this Christmas or, even better, at your Matesmas (hyperlink to other article when published) then step right this way.

The below drinks are not only easy to make but will allow you to take your hosting game to the next level.

Cocktail 1: The Singleton Highball Aperitif

We’ll begin with the easy-going Highball, a classic pre-dinner party cocktail to enjoy with mates. If you’re new to whisky, this is your starting point.

The Highball is a brilliant alternative to a Gin & Tonic, but don’t worry, if you don’t fancy mixing with soda water the drink works just as well with ginger ale or lemonade. The Singleton is an easygoing whisky, remember.

To a glass filled with Ice add:

  • 30ml of The Singleton Whisky (1.2 units of alcohol)
  • Soda

And to finish it off, add a fresh slice of orange to garnish.

Cocktail 2: The Pigs In Blankets Old Fashioned

This one is a bit more advanced but well worth the extra time and effort. After all, it’s bacon AND whisky. What’s not to like?

Best saved as a show-stopper right before the main course, you can rest assured your guests won’t have tasted a Pigs In Blankest Old Fashioned anywhere else before. This will be a real treat.

Here’s the preparation you’ll need to make this delightful concoction:

  • Grill 30 x pigs in blankets in a baking tray
  • From the cooked pigs in blankets collect 30ml of the fat and strain it into a sealable container, filled with 70cl of The Singleton (30 units of alcohol)
  • Leave the fat to steep in the whisky for 6-8 hours or overnight, at room temperature, before placing the bottle in the freezer
  • Once the fat has infused in the bottle, strain the whisky into a new bottle of The Singleton.

Look, we know the pig fat makes all this sound a bit gross but trust us on this.

And to make a Pigs in Blankets Old Fashioned – the connoisseur’s choice of cocktail:

  • 40ml of The Singleton infused with pigs in blanket (1.6 units of alcohol)
  • 5 ml Maple syrup
  • 2 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters

Stir The Singleton and maple syrup in a mixing glass with cubed ice. Next add the bitters and stir.

Fill a tumbler, or short glass, with cubed ice and strain the liquid in. Garnish with an orange slice or a pig in blanket, and enjoy!

Cocktail 3: The Singleton Neat

The simplest one yet. In a short glass pour:

  • 30ml of The Singleton Whisky (1.2 units of alcohol)
  • And a drop of water or some ice (if you want)

Voilà.

The rest is up to you – cocktail umbrella, another pig in blanket – whatever. There are no rules, just good whisky.
