WWE legend Kevin Sullivan has died aged 74, three-months on from suffering a ‘devastating accident’.

Sullivan’s death was confirmed on Friday by long-time Florida wrestling personality Barry Rose.

Rose announced: “With the heaviest of hearts, we are devastated to have to report the passing of the legendary Kevin Sullivan. May he RIP and his family, friends and fans find comfort in how much he was loved.”

The former pro-wrestler died only a few months after he suffered what his family described as a ‘devastating accident’ while partaking in an autograph signing in Florida in May.

The accident required surgery to save Sullivan’s life as well as his leg, however he eventual succumbed to health complications, including sepsis and encephalitis.

Before passing away, Sullivan had an extended stay in ICU leading to his family having to set up a fundraiser to help cover the medical expenses.

Sullivan’s popularity was proven by the response to the family’s plea after the fundraiser exceeded its $20,000 (£15,670) target in under 24 hours.

Significant contributions were made by wrestling personalities Chris Jericho and Dutch Mantell.

Ric Flair of the WWE Hall of Fame paid tribute to Sullivan who he was good friends with.

Flair said: “Kevin Sullivan has been one of my closest friends in the business.

“His knowledge of all sports, not just wrestling, is unparalleled. he is one of the most brilliant minds in the history of our business.”

WWE chief and former wrestler Triple H said: “Kevin Sullivan had one of the most unique minds in the history of our industry, pushing creative boundaries and developing some of the most intriguing characters to step into the ring.

“He had an unwavering passion for what we do. My thoughts are with his family, friends & fans.”
