A woman has been jailed after being caught on camera beating her young dog.
41-year-old Joanne Hosking, from St Ives in Cornwall, admitted causing unnecessary suffering to Edie, in July of last year.
The RSPCA said that Hosking had lifted the dog to shoulder height twice before slamming the animal on to a patio. She then punched the 12-month-old animal.
Appearing at Bodmin Magistrates' Court, Hosking, along with husband Christopher, also admitted to failing to provide veterinary care for the animal. The couple have also been banned from keeping animals for life and ordered to pay £1,450.
Those in attendance in court were shown footage of Edie being beaten. They were also shown video of the aftermath, where the animal was seen limping around a back garden.
According to veterinary evidence, Edie had a dislocated hip for seven days after the incident. She also needed an operation to remove part of the joint as a result.
"I've been doing this job for 22 years and I honestly thought I'd seen everything that I could possibly see," said RSPCA inspector Paul Kempson.
"The number of times that I've had to sit through that video and watch it, when I see that little 12-month-old innocent dog being picked up to shoulder height and slammed down onto concrete paving slabs twice and hearing the thud as she makes contact - it actually turns my stomach every time I see it."
Thankfully, Edie has since been re-homed with a veterinary nurse and has made a recovery.
