VIDEO: Conor McGregor is a little gutted he won’t be on the Irish €1 coin

Moving on

Ben Kenyon

It was good while it lasted.

There was actually a moment when some thought it might be possible that Ireland could be about to put Conor McGregor’s face on the country’s version of the €1 coin.

After all, his exploits on the world stage have made him arguably the most recognisable man in Ireland – so why not stick him on a nugget?

McGregor was obviously loving the fact that there was a campaign to get his mug on his country’s money, and even tweeted this artist’s impression by our brothers over the sea at JOE.ie…

The petition to mint McGregor money reached the Irish Government who were set to discuss it, but they dismissed it pretty quickly after they couldn’t get hold of the original petitioner.

Irish state broadcaster RTE shared a video of the committee swiftly shooting down the petition, however, the chair did admit that the case brought up an interesting topic that is a matter for the public interest, how people get their faces on coins… yeah, that discussion actually happened.

McGregor seemed to enjoy seeing the Committee take the petition so seriously and responded by referencing a classic Irish political outburst that went viral.

It didn’t stop him dreaming of bigger things though…
