The Foreign Office has issued another warning for British nationals, this time advising against all travel to United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Israel and Palestine.
The update follows the chaotic situation in the Middle East after a joint US-Israeli military operation and the death of the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Saturday.
The rare and urgent directive from the UK government applies to all British citizens currently in the Emirates, following retaliatory air strikes from Iran, which have already resulted in at least one death in Abu Dhabi.
“Due to reported missile attacks, British nationals in the UAE should immediately shelter in place”, the official statement from the Foreign Office says.
“Remain indoors in a secure location, avoid all travel, and follow instructions from the local authorities”, it continues.
All British citizens in the affected regions should register their presence immediately via the FCDO website to receive emergency updates, the UK government has urged.
The FCDO has also advised against all travel to the region and confirmed that some diplomatic staff and their families have been relocated from Tel Aviv to undisclosed “secure locations” within Israel, as Israeli airspace has now officially closed to all commercial traffic.
The risk of rocket attacks remains high throughout Israel and Palestine, as intercepted missiles pose a severe secondary threat to those on the ground.
