Two Air France flights that were scheduled to fly to Paris from the USA were reportedly diverted overnight due to anonymous threats made after take-off.

According to reports, Air France Flight 65 from LA to Charles de Gaulle was diverted to Salt Lake City on Tuesday night local time, with officials at Salt Lake airport reportedly stating that the plane had received a phone threat.

Meanwhile, Air France 55 was diverted to Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada, after taking off from Dulles International Airport outside of Washington, also due to a threat that had been made.

Air France released a brief statement saying that both flights had been the “subjects of anonymous threats received”.

“As a precautionary measure and to conduct all necessary security checks, Air France… decided to request the landings of both aircraft,” the airline stated.

“Local authorities are carrying out complete inspections of the aircraft, the passengers and their luggage.”

The “source of the telephone calls” is now being tracked.

A spokesperson for the US Federal Aviation Administration stated that passengers were safely taken off both planes, and an investigation into the threats has been launched.

According to CNN, both flights have been searched and given the all-clear by authorities.
