Trevor Noah sums up the feelings of millions with sombre comment on Trump victory

No joke.

It is all over bar the shouting.

The proverbial fat lady may not be belting out her tune quite yet, but that’s probably because she doesn’t want to be groped by the President-elect. At the time of writing, Donald Trump is only 26 electoral votes away from securing the 270 needed for victory in the US election. He will be the 45th President of the United States of America.

If that inescapable fact sends a chill down your spine, you are certainly not alone. Hundreds of millions of people around the world are fearful of what this could mean for geopolitics, trade, the environment, and numerous hotspots around the globe.

After all, this is a man who talks about building walls instead of bridges; he threatens to end NAFTA and withdraw support for NATO allies. And that’s ignoring his attitudes towards women, Mexicans, refugees, Muslims, homosexuals and others.

The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah is employed to find levity and amusement in pretty much any situation, but on election night 2016, he was just as shocked as everyone else. Not quite lost for words, he was absolutely lacking in laughter.

His short and sweet reaction to the breaking results echo the sentiments of many who are concerned about what President Trump could mean for the world…

“Er, this is it. The end of the Presidential race, and it feels like the end of the world. I’m not going to lie – I don’t know if you’ve come to the right place for jokes tonight.

“Because this is the first time throughout this entire race that I’m officially shitting my pants.

“I genuinely do not understand how America can be this disorganised or this hateful – I don’t know which one it is…”
