Three people are dead and 15 more have been injured following a tidal surge and strong winds in the holiday hotspot of Tenerife.
Officials announced the news today (Sunday 9 November) confirming that three people had died yesterday during bad weather which included a tidal surge and strong winds.
One of the three people was a 43-year-old man from the island who fell into the sea at the beauty spot of Charco del Viento on the north of the island.
He was airlifted to hospital, but pronounced dead upon arrival, Spanish media reported.
In another incident, a man was found floating off Cabezo beach in El Medano on the south of the island.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, despite efforts by lifeguards and paramedics to resuscitate him.
The identity of this man has not been released.
The third person was a 79-year-old Dutch woman who suffered a heart attack after a wave swept multiple people into the sea at Puerto de la Cruz, north of the island, as per El Dia.
Three more people were seriously injured and taken to hospital.
Emergency services say that 15 people were injured across four separate incidents around the Spanish island on Saturday in the wake of inclement weather.
Locals and holidaymakers have been warned by authorities of a tidal surge and strong winds, being advised to avoid coastal paths and rough seas.
Officials say the Canary Islands, which Tenerife is a part of, are on alert for coastal hazards.
